Not noticably. In theory, everyone in a given area splits the bandwidth provided by DSL lines – however you’d need an awful lot of people doing some heavy duty downloading to notice a difference.

Confused.
Verizon DSL is an ISP service. Comes with a modem, gets you online
Norton is an anti-virus program
What security keeps popping up??? Norton?
What does it say??
Why did you return DSL, how are you getting online???

‘just left it on there’
don’t!
Remove all vestiges of the old isp’s software.
Never install an isp’s software unless you know how to remove it!
You shouldn’t need it to get on the net. the only exception is weird networking.
If you can’t get it off, you may have to re-install your OS. Not pretty, but it will clear out the evils imposed on you.
UPDATE:
You can keep the Verizon dsl hardware but it won’t work!
